Hi all,

I have just been made out to be a w****r for buying the wrong car. It is a 2.0 litre TDi S-line [140 bhp]. Its got full audi service history, and 40k miles on it.

I have been told that before it reaches 100k miles the oil pump is going to give way and destroy my engine and will cost about 2 grand to fix. Bit disheartened if that is true but the guy that told me is a Vauxhall astra enthusiast, so you never know..

Just wanted to check. With the engine in mine, what other reliability issues should i look at?

Cheers, Kev.

They do have problems im afraid with the oil pump and balancer on these engines. They are reported to be quite good though apart from that but they do have their issues.
Maybe try a search on the net of people that can change the oil chain system before anything does go wrong, there is a improved design available

I paid nearly 1.5k and the warranty company paid about 4k to have mine repaired from my drilling google the arm on the oil pump is too short and Audi refuses to do a recall as this fails roughly at 100,000 miles is what I saw my car had approx. 120k I have a 2006 2.0 TDi A4 170bhp if you search there are a few companies who have redesigned the oil pump and this issue seems to be fixed in the 2008 model. Hope you don't have to suffer like I did

its true but only on the bkp engine code the other 2,0tdis are fine, the bkp had a chain driven pump and the nylon runners wear and the chain falls off causing low preassure and engine failure, that was revised in o6 to a gear driven pump run off a hexaganol balancer shaft witch was 4mm to short so over time it wears down and again breaks with the same results,

theres is a revised pump witch is readilly available at abt 650 plus another 650 to witch is a permant cure,

u will know when its on its way out as it will sound like a rattling/failed flywheel,

also the injectors are on recall so if u phone audi and give them ur reg they will let u know if ur vehicle is affected.

ukpassats will be a lot of help as its more common in the passat.

they are apart from that good engines so its worth checking but if urs has only got 40k id just save up 1k and have the revised pump fitted

Hi,

Sorry to jump on thread, but the issues you have pointed out seem similar to what has happened to my A4 BRE 2.0tdi SE yesterday.

Drove to Wales 64 mile journey with no problems, nipped in a shop, came out, tried to start the car, it just shook and there was a right clanking/grinding noise.

Switched it off and got recovered. Its a 2007 Audi but its still under warranty, but ive looked at the warranty and it states repairs up to the value of ÂŁ750.

Its done 84000.

Does it sound as if it will be the oil pump issue you are talking about.

Or could be an injector problem, a known issue on the BRE Pd engine

There was no warning light on the LCD, no oil light came on either.

Just looked at the log book and mines a 140 BRE 145919 engine

Cheers
