Hello again guys, I've still got problems...

As I accellerate in first, second (and now third) as I go for another gear there some white and blueish smoke coming from the back of the car. My first thought is that the turbo is on the way out but looking at some of the other threads (on various VW/Audi forums) suggest that it could be linked to the EGR valve being clogged up and not working properly.

Also it feels like there is a slight jolt as I accelerate ( this isn't a regular thing though) and the same posts mention this.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here and is my turbo on the way out or is my EGR valve playing up?

Also I have noticed some mayo like sludge in my intercooler (left hand side as you look at the back of it) water and oil free of nasty mayo like deposits, could the intercooler (when the seals where dodgy) have sucked moisture in?

Thanks in advance, (man I could do with some good luck!!!)

Strange to be honest, blue smoke is normally internal engine wear, black smoke is over fuelling(normally boost related),grey turbo, white fuel contamination or a like,if the seals are opening under load that could cause the smoke but as above it would normally be black as its drawing in air and trying to compensate with fueling more

Yep leach overfuelling is black. I'd suspect the turbo to be honest. No harm cleaning the egr and breather pipes incase they are blocked up. Other thing is injector seals. How much oil is it using, and is the intercooler full of oil from your description?

Firstly, thanks for the replys guys,

The intercooler doesn't have that much oil in at all really, it does have some mayo like sludge in the left hand side as you look at the back of it, could it be that being pulled through? If it was the turbo then wouldn't it do it all the time?

I had to go to see my dad yesterday (round trip of 40- 50 miles) and apart from the 'odd puff' of the mainly white smoke early on in the journey (the engine was at running temp) there wasnt any noticeable smoke in any gear. the same for the journey to work this morning (about 20-25 miles)

I'm going to get in touch with my mechanic today (lack of tools and scared i'll brake something) to have all the breather hoses, egr and intercooler cleaned out.. Will keep you posted.

Hi Guys, firstly thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

I'm getting 2 fault codes..

19463 Camshaft position sensor (G40) No signal intermittant

16683 Boost pressure regulation:Control range not exceeded.

probably a silly question, but would the cam sensor be causing my limp mode problem? It seems to happen at the same sort of speed.

Can the sensor be changed without having the cambelt changed (as quoted by the garage). Are the 2 codes linked?

I had a hybrid turbo fitted so would I be right in thinking that I need the car remapped again?

@mark-gti, 219BHP!, what other mods have you had done?

Thanks Phatboyruss

16683/P0299/000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached

Possible Symptoms

  • Reduced Power Output
  • Limp Mode

Possible Causes

  • Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected or leaking
  • Charger Pressure Control defective

Possible Solutions

  • Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
  • Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control

Special Notes

  • When found in 2.0l TFSI:
    • Check Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249), for cracked rubber diaphragm. A new/optimized Valve is available under Part # 06F-145-710-G (or newer), see TPI 2016331 for details.

Hi, my apologies since its been a while since my last post.

2 things,

Firstly, i've had the cam sensor done, 5th and 6th gear seem to have some grunt again [:D] and I now appear to have an erratic idle (it was there before but it only did it on the odd occasion, its now pretty much every time) The cars fine when first started, drive it 20 yards or so, stop and the idle will 'hunt' a little 100-200rpm either side of its normal level until the temps upto say 70 or 80 degrees and all is smooth again. It drives normally though

Secondly, i still have the limp mode issue, it now limps every 90-100 miles or so, this had baffled the specialists a little and the have asked for the car back for 2 days to run some more tests. ( to be fair I wasnt charged a penny for the day the car was with them to find the fault re: limp mode and idle)

The only fault code it comes back with now is Boost Pressure Underboost...

Am I right in thinking, this maybe an engine map related issue as I've had a hybrid installed, or could something else be going on... I'd like to go down the route of adding an exhaust and intercooler before remapping though.

Again, thank you for all comments posted

A map could definatly have an affect as boost parametres are changed with a map. Maybe ring he tuner to ask his opinion. My guess is that there still as to be a leak somewhere?
