Hi how's it going?

I'm after some help and advice please peeps.

A couple of days ago I started to notice that occasionally as i was accelerating through 3rd gear the revs would rise but my speed didn't increase much?!? A friend of mine mentioned trying to pull away in 3rd gear and if it did the clutch was slipping.........well I've just been out and managed to pull away in 3rd and 4th!! Is this a pucka test and if my clutch is on its way out can anyone recommend a replacement/aftermarket part and somewhere to get it fitted in the Manchester area??

Sorry for all the questions

Cheers Lee

If you pull away hard in 3rd, 4th or 5th and the revs rise or shoot up but ur speed doesnt...then you have a slipping clutch. U will be able to limp around for alittle bit if u take it easy.

what mileage do u have? and what bhp?

when mine goes, im goin to replace it with a single mass flywheel, and sachs or similar...

Thanks Steve,

Whilst driving this morning I tried pulling away in 3rd - 4th and its definitely not quite right, the reves went up with little power increase and then dropped down slightly before it started to pull away properly!! She's done just over 71k and I should be pushing about 210bhp with the map

Mmm that sounds nice but expensive mate

I think AMD costs around £800 for supply and fitting of a sachs clutch and SMF.

How long since the remap? I wouldnt put a new clutch and fly through 210bhp for long. I dont know how long it would last...

Hi mate.

If you can get a clutch, My mate (who is an ex audi mechanic can fit it) but they can also get clutches for you...

I got my Golf clutch from Macess - you have to be trade though - i have an accoutn somehow though.

Chorlton MOT Garage - 0161 881 7115 - If you ask for Hassan, and say Khuram (Khur-rum) (me) recommended you. Always say the first price is too expensive...

They done the clutch in my golf and it was sooo light...

They look after my Audi, The TT, Mums BMW, Dads Yaris (hes a driving instructor) and the owners son has an evo 6 which they look after. He'll be rebuilding my type r for me soon too or replacing the engine..

They have the diagnostic stuff too...id defo recomend them.

I cant remember the audi guys name but theres 2 people that work on my car. ones a skinny old black dude and the others a sightly bigger white guy! top guys, cant rate them enough - Apparently, The 2nd fella use to work for Audi or audi specialist..

PM me if you want more info on them..

Did you change the clutch yet diggler?

I've not actually got round to it yet!!! I've found a performance clutch kit by cg motorsport on http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk/ and think i might just get a standard duel mass flywheel for the time being as funds are a little low.

I would get the mechanic to check the condition of the DMF. because normally they need changing at the same time. Its best with your bhp to get a Single mass Fly. then you know that you are good for life.

Hi Diggler

As stevee has mentioned it is highly recomended that the flywheel is replaced at the same time as the clutch kit. This will eliminate any possible issues with a worn flywheel setup.

There are 3 options availible to yourself

1 : Single mass flywheel with performance clutch

2 : Dual Mass flywheel and standard clutch

3 : Dual Mass flywheel and performance clutch

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice chaps,

After chatting to the mechanic he also recommended changing the DMF at the same time as the clutch. So I thought I might as well do the job properly and as I'm hopefully going to be keeping the car for a while, I've gone for a single mass flywheel and a performance clutch which should be here this week and then fitted the week after next [:)]

HI Diggler,

Have the same problem with my 02 1.8T (225)...

Just wondered where you had the clutch kit done, and how much it cost?

Cheers,
Ash
