A group of members are intending to head to the Nurburgring for a long weekend in mid October.

Heading out on the 17th, and staying until wednesday 22nd, (with some heading back on the 21st) its going to take the usual format of self booking and you are independent to make your own plans.

One group shall use the Hull to Rotterdam ferry, and others the more conventional Dover routes.

Hotel for the stay shall be the Haus Sonneck, we've used it plenty of times and its prefect for what we need, and a reasonable 32 euros per night. Contact them via email to book on [email protected] and more info on the hotel can be found here; http://www.hotel-haus-sonneck.de

As usual however we politely request that though we have the "all are welcome" attitude we wouldn't enjoy someone bringing a fleet of mates in their Corsas. We have a good relationship with the hotel owners and would not want this to be compromised.

Yeah, CkB's got it slightly wrong, we leave on the 18th - the day you land in Holland from your overnight ferry that leaves on the 17th. But we both land in France/Holland at pretty much the same time I think, so it's Cannonball Run stylee to be first there!!

Chunnel details:

Going out
(local time)
Short Stay Saver Fare | Folkestone to Calais | Saturday 18 October 2008
Check-in closes 07:50 Departure time 08:20 Arrival time 09:55£61
Coming back
(local time)
Short Stay Saver Fare | Calais to Folkestone | Tuesday 21 October 2008
Check-in closes 13:20 Departure time 13:50 Arrival time 13:25£52

Ferry Details (P&O):

Outward Hull - Rotterdam Fri 17 Oct 2008 21:00 £116.00
ReturnRotterdam - Hull Wed 22 Oct 2008 21:00 £98.50
Includes1 adult , Car , Fuel surcharge £8.00

Plus the cost of a Cabin

'Ring is open to the public:

  • Saturday 13:30 - 18:30
  • Sunday 08:00 - 18:30
  • Monday 12:00 - 17:00
  • Tuesday Closed.

So basically it's an ideal weekend to go as it'll be a bit quieter than the summer season, especially the Monday and it's cheaper to travel too as the kids are in school.

Calais to Adenau 285 Miles

Rotterdam to Adenau 215 Miles

Slight advantage on our side, plus we don't have to deal with the overzealous Gendarmes.

When we hit the Autobahn, needles will be bent. (as Cundliffe would put it)

The cabins actually included in that price, (2 bunk inside cabin) I upgraded my cabin to Premium 2 berth outside (which we always do) and it took the price to £250ish in total.

There is a promotion code for P&O that gets you a discount on this route, It took my price down to £225. The code is CSMA01

Guys (namely Wab, Mike M, and BigGaz) - be aware of the latest fire in the cross channel tunnel.

They're down to one tunnel and it's freight only currently - no car crossing's available. Last time it took them weeks to get it sorted, so it may well get tight for our trip.

I'll keep an eye on but worth just keeping a cheeky eye on the state of things over the next few weeks ready for our trip...

Having left it this late I doubt he'd go by train anyway it's probably a small fortune now.

I'll keep an eye and if it's not looking promising i'll be going after ET for a refund + difference for a ferry!!

I'm going to monitor the state of the tunnel and book after that. I'd rather use the tunnel but if not i'll be using a small hours ferry, hoping to avoid traffic in the uk and on the continent.

Not bothered if rooms are not ready when arriving early at the Sonneck there will always be something to do...
