Hello all,

Well owned a few Vw's over the years but never an Audi up until a couple
of weeks back. Bought a 2004 A3 1.9tdi manual with the BKC engine. So
far its been ok has required a new alternator as the original had a
shot bearing. Also the air con doesnt work as the clutch wont engage
even though the 12v feed is going to the compressor. Biggest problem is
that the syncro is shot on 2nd and its going to cost £500 quid to put
righ.

The joys.

Cheers

Welcome along mate. Shame about the gearbox. Wonder how previous owner stripped it!

thanks for the responses folks.

Not sure i think what may have happened is that they have had a garage change the gearbox oil and the garage have not realised that you need to fill via the reverse gear switch or else you only get around 1.3ltrs of oil in via the 17mm filler point. When i drained the oil there was only around 1.3ltrs of oil in there instead of the 1.9ltrs. Also when refilling it would only take funnily enough around 1.3ltrs before it started spilling out. So i undid the reveres switch and put the remainder in here.

Once new oil was fitted the gear-change felt so much better, just a bummer that the syncro is knacked. Its fine if you allow the gearbox to slow just that little bit on its own then s elect second. The other half wants it fixed i could live with it. £575 to fit new second gear and syncro nightmare!

Cheers
