Hey folks.

Interesting times with the A3 this week. Driving along the motorway (after covering about 80 miles) and the water temperature warning flashes up on the dash. Coolant sensor was showing 90C on the dash. So I pull over, pop the bonnet up to find coolant pouring out one of the heater matrix hoses, with the coolant expansion tank lid popped off by the pressure build up. I didn't have any coolant with me, or anything else, as I had emptied the car ready for selling to upgrade to an 5 door 8P model. So, called out the AA.

Few simple checks as I had already done - the guy thought it was the water pump had failed. Despite having only been done with the timing belt 25k ago, I got a local reputable Audi specialist to change the water pump and timing belt this morning. Water pump was OK, timing belt was fine, but the tensioner and bearings were running a little rough, so now the timing belt sounds and looks nice and healthy again.

So, it was the thermostat. Bashed the thermostat about and it is now open. Stuck open, but at least the engine won't go bang immediately. 230 quid later and it was the part from ECP for less than a tenner delivered all along. Great. But the thermostat being closed shut meant the coolant boiled and blew the hose which leads from adjacent to the coolant temperature sensor to the heater matrix. Couple of photos attached of that - only problem is I can't even read the part number off it and the local Audi dealer is...well, kind of like calling a BT call centre, so I got nowhere with that.

Can anyone help identify the part number for this hose shown below? It's a 1.9 ATD 100 engine.

As your selling, i would try getting the part from www.a8parts.co.uk 01642 783537 rather than audi main dealers. I know EXACTLY how the BT call center is frustrating, ive been trying for two days just to get a paint code!

Cheers, I emailed them this morning when I got your reply.

With regards to the paint code, it should be on the label in the spare wheel well in the boot, or on the sticker inside the service book.

Any joy with the hose? they were pretty quick for me (only Small stuff) so can only speak as i find. Depending on how the hose is damaged sometimes its just trimming the end or it can be possible to repair the middle!(temporary) either way im surprised your garage didnt just do it when they had it! As for me and paint ....mmm yes it should be!!!!! Personal visit methinks
