Hi,

I've got a 2006 A6 with only 40k on the clock. It's been well looked after and recently had a minor service done on from a Audi specialist. All was well until i gave my car in for a MOT today. I left my car with the garage in the morning and picked it up in the evening. It passed the MOT but on the advisory it said engine management light on.

I know that this light has never been on in my car and as I do a lot of driving I make sure I check everything, plus how could I miss the yellow light on the dash. Anyway, the garage said it must have been there before the MOT and the first thing they do is check for errors, I know it was not but they are not listening to me.

I doubt if anything in the MOT could cause this or could it?.

I'm not sure what to do, can I say anything to the garage?. What could it be?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Itll have to be scanned mate to see what the engine fault code is.

The light might of came on by coincidence or if they really revved it for the smoke test. Do you drive it hard sometimes?

I drive on the motorways a lot and do drive it hard. I use sports mode a lot too.

Yea I know it will have to be scanned but it will be at my cost!

It should be safe to drive -right? No limp mode and everything seems normal.

Thanks

Im surprised that the MOT centre didnt scan it for you after the test. 5mins would of had you the code.

BUt the best thing for you to do now is to go to any independent garage and get it scanned and tell us the fault code.

It should be fine to drive but i wouldnt drive it hard and i would get it scanned sooner rather than later.

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply. The light stayed on for a few days. Then I decided to open the bonnet and have a do a visual inspection. I did bot touch anything. When I shut the bonnet and started the car the light was gone! Very strange. I guess it could be a loose connection maybe?
