On my day off, i decided to change the brake disks and pads on my A4.

The carrier bolts were a bugger to get off. But.....i got the disks off.

But the wheel bearings were the problem. On the A4 the anti roll bars / multilink arms and track rod has to come off. They are 7 years old and buggered on. Ive tried everything. Each bolt was needing to be wd40'd spanner hit with a hammer. More Wd40, torque wrench.........half an hr later. 1 bolt comes rusting off.

So........i hadnt the heart to do it all.

Local Vw specialist has quoted me - timing belt + pump + brakes + wheel bearings = £300.

Very disapointed as i had aspired to do it all myself as ive done it before on my other cars. Its not the money........its my pride........

Rant over

Come on stevee chin up at least your trying,we have problems at work even with the new ones,a 59 pate touran we couldnt get the hub bolt out the other day and when i got my guns on it i broke the cracker bar and the track rod end was also solid, how can that be on a 2009 car? on yours stevee i would also keep the top bolt and nut lubricated the one that goes through top of the knuckle which hold the two top arms in,as they are known for rusting solid and just snapping

Yeah i know that long pin that your talking about. That one was a right ..............

Still disappointed, oh well i guess its a job i dont have the tools to do. To be honest its not worth my while struggling spending a week off work doing it when i can pay £300 to someone to do it.

Yeah i wont give up, just hit back abit [:(]

Yeah its very good isnt it. Its a Master Vw tech that does jobs from his home garage at the weekend. Top guy apparantly. £30 an hr and he estimates 10 hrs. To be honest even if he did a few hours more i wouldnt mind as its so reasonable and I want him to take his time to do it good

You're not lone in your disappointment Stevee - I thought I'd treat myself to a PS3 tonight but the game that was part of the bundle was out of stock so I came home PS3-less. Gutted, had planned a nice evening on it!

It was Battlefield Bad Company 2. Might have a shop around this afternoon to see if I can get the deal elsewhere.

Funnily enough, I've just watched a review of RDD. Looks amazing, a bit of a Western GTA. Have you got it?

Sorry Stevee, taking your thread way OT here.

That's something that I've considered too - would I play it often enough to warrant spending £300 (yes, I am tight [:D] ). I guess I'll have to make time!
