Hi guys.

I'm pretty sure my brake pads are gone but how do i check whether i need to change the discs.

The cars done around 60k.

I can feel like a grooved/indented surface on the discs where the pads have worn the disc away...

Does this mean i need to change the discs and pads?

And also, which ones do i go for?

I had Mintex on the Golf and they were really good...can anyone suggest any decent ones at a good price?

Cheers

That is normally the time that brake disks last....mine have gone 100k miles now though! but there is a warning light that will come on ur dash when the pads are too low. Like when u get short on fuel...there will come warning note saying brakes! There is a contact wire on the pads that acts as a warning.

If that light isnt on id say ur ok to keep motoring!

Oh and the only way to know whether to change the disks or not is to measure them. Outer callipers!

My brakes well due as i mentioned above. I am well happy with the OEM brakes that i have at the moment so will try to find some discount OEM disks and pads.

When i brake hard, they shake really hard and the pedle judders alot.

Also, they're not as sharp as my hired Jetta?

WOuld it be easy to fit S3 brakes or RS4 brakes for example?

I might be able to get S3 ones for jsut a bit more than replacing the discs and they've only got 3000miles on them!

Yes definatly warped disks there mate.

here are the part numbers for the 3,2 quattro brake setup...thats probably the best route for you to go down if there.

310x22mm Disc - 1K0 615 601N
* Shield - 1K0 615 611S
* Caliper - 1K0 615 423/424 B
* Carrier - 1K0 615 425 B or A/G
* Pads - TBA

Mind you that will set you back a fair bit.........

I still say stick to a new set of OEM disks and pads.... unless you are going to do track days and that sort of thing.

Cheers guys...

I just realised my MOTs on saturday...will it get through?

It does stop..just not as good as it should.

The pads are worn but not down the metal.....i hope it does pass!

As for the 3.2 Brakes, I know someone thats breaking one!

Would it worth upgrading the calipers to 3.2 ones?

I'll get a price on the calipers now

Ye there are plenty of mkv golf owners that are doing the conversion! They supposed to be real good! Think they are 312mm on the front.

The Mot people wont check what size the pads are....they will just check their efficency..... so its wether they are that good. Id say that they would still pass though, Sweet for you to know that lad breaking a 3.2!!!!!!

Any other mods you could take from it?

Everythings there apart from the front and vortex kit (which he put on his wifes a3).

I've emailed the guy but I'll drop him a bell tommorrow and see what he says!

I just hope she passes the MOT as i need my car for uni (well...when i say need, i cba catching a train :D)

Thinking of painting them too while they're off. I've seen silver on a members A3 which looks tempting or might go Black..hmmm :S

Whooo...passed the MOT !!! :D

He said the pads have got a few months left in them.

And as for the discs, they're fine.

When your brake hard, the judderyness is apparently the ABS kicking in!

Still looking into the 3.2 Brakes but looking into some porsche ones :D

Hopefully over the next few weeks, I get my bonus from uni and I'll see where i go :D
