hi Chaps,

I have had my 2.0T for 2 months now. The other the day the warning light came on for low oil!!

When I got the car from Audi I checked the oil level which showed oil. not sure if it was max but it definitaly was not Min!!

Anyway - I bought some Mobil oil today topped it up as a saftey precuaution.

But my Q is - WTF? do I take it back to Audi? Also where do you think the oil went! do these cars need a topped up?

Last Q - Im also on longlife service!?

How old is the car mate? It could be loosing oil....Its a shame you dont know exactly how much. If i were you i would put the oil to the max and then see how fast it goes down. All VAG cars normally need abit of a top up every now and again.

Make sure your topping it up with the right spec [Y]

ps i would check oil regular and not let it drop down that low....once mine is getting anywhere near the min i top up to the max, sometimes when it is down on half..

You will get used to it and get to know how often to check. It is abit alarming at the start alright! [Y]

Does anyone else know how it eats the oil? I always get enough in my intercooler....

its nothing to worry about the 2.0s do use a bit of oil, esp when given some and on boost..

most of it is lost though to the inlet manifold and burnt / gumps up the egr valve and clogs the inter cooler, this is because as the car comes on boost when driven hard there is massive low pressure pre turbo as its sucking very hard! this happens to suck oil from the breather system - which it has to be law as you can not legaly vent the oil vapour to atmosphere.

you will learn to keep an eye on it and make sure you top it up with the correct vag long life 3 oil as this will help. I alwways have a litre in the boot in the net on the side just in case, but if mines driven normaly it wont use much oil at all needinga top up every few months / 3k miles or so...and mine does mostly long runs on the motorway doing 500miles a week avg.- best thing to do is get a 5l bottle from your local trade parts specilist place (as its cheaper than the dealers - use http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ to find your local outlet) and then get a 1l container for the boot.

also the age of the engine will make a factor, when new they will use a bit more...it wont settle down and be run in untill at least 40k miles! and they will keep getting better and better up to 250k+ (my old 1.9PD was on 200k when I sold it and wouldnt use any oil between 10k services!)
